Spiritual Growth

We all understand and realize that we grow from infants to adulthood. During that time frame we have learned and gain understanding of how many things operate. The dictionary explains that growth is a natural development, progress, maturity, and advancement. Well as one grows in the flesh one must also grow in the spirit. Let’s look at what the Bible says about spiritual growth.

First look at Matthew 13:19 it says When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

Now look at 1Timothy 6:3 it says If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession.

Look at Verse 17 it says Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

In closing look at 2Peter 3:17 it says Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Yes, we can say that during our years of growing we have gain a natural development, and in the spirit we have gain progress in understanding, maturity in faith, and advancement in our holy positions. So let’s not be the man who hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart, or the one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. Let’s not be the one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. Be the one who received the seed that fell on good soil, and is the man who hears the word and understands it, and living the Godly live. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

Let us all produce a crop that will yield us a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Do not let the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth overcome your live. But be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
